A Paddler's Guide to Everglades National Park

Below are maps that show our intended route through the Everglades in an area where the fresh

 water of the Everglades meets the salt waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico.  The

 Wilderness Waterway is advertised as 99 Miles one-way and we’ve decided to do a round

-trip.  We want to experience both the traditional “inside” route (see red line) as well as the

outside” route (blue line) along the Gulf of Mexico.  It should prove to be a challenging trip.

Anticipated  mileage is around 170 to 180 miles in 8 days.  Our biggest obstacles will be the

tides – currents and low water, bugs and possibly the weather.  Hopefully we will hit it just

right during a cold front but this area is notorious for it’s mosquitoes and no-see-ums. 

That little fact helped us name this trip…
